Director, Pharmacy Services (Corporate)

Position Purpose

Perform duties to develop, direct and implement a pharmacy benefit management program, aiding the Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs in formulating and administering related organizational policies and procedures, including pharmacy service quality, pharmacy utilization management and achievement of company goals for pharmacy and medical programs. Participate in strategic development activities consistent with mission, philosophy, objectives and goals. Review and implement new techological tools and foster team concept with internal and external constituencies.

Position Qualification Requirements
 
Knowledge/Experience
Equivalent of a college education in pharmacy, doctor of pharmacy or additional advanced degrees preferred. Over 3 years up to and including 5 years of clinical pharmacy care experience. Over 3 years of recent contracting, quality improvement and management experience in a healthcare environment, preferably managed care.
 
Skills/Competencies
Thorough knowledge of pharmaceutical care and pharmacy benefit management practices as well as the application of basic management skills theories. Strong communication and people management skills; strong computer skills and good analytical and mathematical skills.
 
Licenses/Certifications
Registered Pharmacist (RPh) in at the following state: Indiana, with eligibility for pharmacy licensure in the others. Current driver’s license and automobile insurance.
 
Overall Operational Leadership
Establish the strategic vision, objectives and attendant policies and procedures for the pharmacy program, supporting the corporate strategic vision, and in conjunction with corporate and plan management.
 
Needs Analysis and Planning
Evaluate current policies, procedures and practices for accomplishing the assigned work function’s objectives to develop and implement improved procedures and practices for both the internal work function and external contacts to ensure compliance with established standards.
 
People Management
Create effective organizational structure, roles and jobs. Develop staff skills and competencies through training and experience. Select or hire individuals wisely into new roles.
 
Budget/Financial Management
Manage budgets and forecast for strategic planning and key initiatives. Balance current future needs effectively. Standardize Applications and Processes Review and analyze reports, records and directives, and confer with staff to obtain data required for planning work function activities, such as new projects, status of work in progress, and problems encountered.
 
External and Internal Communications
Manage relationships with key vendors such as pharmacy benefit management companies and pharmaceutical companies where appropriate. Act as the contract administrator for the development and implementation of key contracts and ensure that relevant performance standards are met by vendors. Resolve disputes, grievances and complaints involving pharmacy program issues. Support provider education initiatives such as counter detailing and incentive
programs.
